Heaven on Earth -- Bali & Java
Full day of travel from the USA and we also lose a day crossing the International Date Line which we will get back on the return.
Day 1 – Our tour will begin near Jogyakarta in Java. Spending 2 days in the Borobudur area. Borobudur is the largest ancient monument in the southern hemisphere with 8,235 sq meters of stone surface carved in high relief, 1,500 pictorial panels, and 1,200 ornamental panels - a colossal "cosmic mountain" is the largest Buddhist sanctuary on the planet.
Day 2 – Borobudur Temple for sunrise and a morning of exploring this massive structure. After lunch we will head back to Borobudur for more exploring and shooting until sunset. A traditional Javanese dancing performance will accompany us at dinner.
Day 3 - Climb to the top of Borobudur for sunrise. After shooting the temple we go back to the hotel for a late breakfast and check out. We drive back towards Jogyakarta crossing slope of Merapi Mountain. After lunch at the mountain we will visit the beautiful restored Prambanan Hindu temple until sunset.
Day 4 – Early am we fly to Bali to begin or adventure on the island often called heaven on earth.
Days 4-10 - We will base ourselves in exotic Ubud and each day we will attend dance performances, visit temples, shoot sunrise over terraced rice fields, and then on the 29th we will be treated to the wonderful full Moon temple festivals. The people go all out for the full Moon, dress in their finest attire and make the largest offerings. A visual feast! Amazing photos to be had everywhere you turn.
Days 11 & 12 - We will visit the village of Bedugul, a beautiful and peaceful mountain retreat on wonderful Lake Bratan. Shooting sunset at Pura Ulan Danu. Overnight in Bedugul. After shooting sunrise at Pura Ulan Danu, we will drive to the northwest corner of Bali to Pemuteran - a small village on the northern cost of the island via scenic roads, seeing clove & coffee plantations and rice terraces along the way. Afternoon explore the village life until sunset.
Day 13 - After exploring the town at sunrise we will take a boat ride to Menjangan Island. Snorkeling does not get better than this -- bright reefs and lots of fish. Return from the island for lunch and the rest of the afternoon will be at your leisure to explore the town.
Day 14 - Today we will make the drive back South to our final hotel at Nusa Dua.
Day 15 – Early AM departure to the Denpasar Airport for the flight home. We will gain back that day we lost and arrive home the same day we left.
Single accommodations are available for a supplemental cost in most locations; please see the pre-departure trip information or call our office for details. You will be charged the single supplement fee if you desire single accommodations or if you wish to have a roommate, but one is not available. In some remote locations, clients with single rooms are infrequently compelled to share a room due to circumstances beyond our control. In such cases, appropriate per diem refunds will be made reflecting the direct cost of the single room at the facility where clients are required to share. There is no additional single supplement fee on ship-based cruises if you request a roommate and one is not available.
Price is based on 8 people joining this tour. If less than 8 then a small-group charge may apply. This will be determined 70 days in advance. Cost increases may also occur unexpectedly due to rising costs of airfares, ground transport, fuel surcharges, and currency fluctuations, among others. MagicLight, L.L.C. may have to amend prices, and we reserve the right to do so without prior notice. An increase in trip prices shall not be sufficient grounds for any refund of funds paid for the trip other than as determined by the terms of our cancellation policy.
Our workshop/tours are NON-smoking. We travel together in a van and when out in nature we like to enjoy the fresh air.All tours have tentative itineraries that we try to follow as weather and schedules allow. We plan to be out shooting as much as possible, early and late, and will have "plan B" scenarios if conditions alter our planned activity. Flexibility is often a necessity when dealing with the weather and travel.Tours are designed for physically able adults, capable of hiking/walking with their own photography equipment. Most of our trips are not overly strenuous, but may have difficult elements at any point depending on the location/terrain, elevation, weather and fitness level of the participant. If you have any concerns or questions about the physical demands of the trip, please contact us. Sherpa/assistants are available to help you carry & setup your gear at an additional fee -- email for more info.
